Belén Rueda

belen_ruedaFinland Belén Rueda on espanjalainen näyttelijätär, joka aloitti elokuvien parissa heti huipulta naispääosassa ohjaaja Alejandro Amenabárin elämäkertadraamassa Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside, 2004) yli 40 vuoden ikäisenä. Espanjalaisten trillerien ja erityisesti kauhutrillerien nousu maailman parhaimmistoon oli tuolloin meneillään ja pian Belén olikin jo kysyttyä vakiokalustoa, vaikka pyrkikin näyttelemään erilaisissa tuotannoissa. Ohjaaja J.A.Bayonan huimaava esikoiselokuva El orfanato (The Orphanage, 2007) sementoi Bayonan lisäksi myös Belén Ruedan tunnetuksi nimeksi kauhuelokuvien ystävien joukossa ja jatkoa oli pian luvassa, kun Belén teki vähintäinkin yhtä vahvan roolin Guillem Moralesin kauhujännärissä Los ojos de Julia (Julia’s Eyes, 2010) sekä samana vuonna myös vähemmän tunnetussa Oskar Santosin tieteisjännärissä El mal ajeno (For the Good of Others, 2010). Jännärien ja tieteiselokuvien saralla Belén ei ole levännyt laakereillaan senkään jälkeen. Hyvä näin!

United-Kingdom Belén Rueda is a Spanish actress who started her film actress career straight from the top acting a female lead role in Alejandro Amenabár’s highly acclaimed biography Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside, 2004). She was already almost 40 at the time. The rise of Spanish thrillers to be among the best in the world happened at around that time as well. Director J.A.Bayona’s breath-taking debut film El orfanato (The Orphanage, 2007) cemented not only the director but Belén as well to be a respected name known by any and all horror aficionados around the world who dared to peek behind the scaring curtain of Anglo-American productions. Soon Belén returned to the horror thriller genre in a wonderfully scary thriller, Guillem Morales -directed, Los ojos de Julia (Julia’s Eyes, 2010) and science-fiction fans were pampered soonish after that with Oskar Santos’ unfortunately lesser known science fiction thriller El mal ajeno (For the Good of Others, 2010). Since those years she hasn’t been still in regards to horror, thriller and science fiction films and we – the fans – are thankful of that!

Finland Yanin Vismitananda on thaimaalainen näyttelijätär ja kamppailulajiharrastaja, joka potki itsensä kansainväliseen tietoisuuteen debyyttielokuvallaan, Prachya Pinkaewin ohjauksella Chocolate (2008). Yaninin akrobaattinen taituruus hakee vertaistaan. Toistaiseksi vielä tätä kirjoitettaessa Yaninilla on takanaan vain muutama thaimaalainen taistelulajielokuva, joissa hyödynnetään Yaninin taustaa kamppailulajien parissa.

Melissa ehti esiintyä useissa mielenkiintoisissa (jännitys- ja kauhuviihteen fanien kannalta!) pienemmissä rooleissa (esimerkiksi Alex Proyasin Dark City (1998), Steven Soderberghin The Limey (1999), David Lynchin Mulholland Drive (2001)) ennen kuin hänelle alkoi avautua mahdollisuuksia naispääosiin. Sarah on nyttemmin siirtynyt kameran toiselle puolelle, mutta kauhu- ja jännitysviihteen ystävät saivat herkullisia viitteitä Sarahin monipuolisesta näyttelijäntyöstä ja erityisen ilmeikkäistä kasvoista Zack Snyderin elokuvassa Dawn of the Dead (2004), jossa Sarahin voimakas ja tasainen Ana-hahmo on vahvana selviytyjänä sekä Vincenzo Natalin elokuvassa Splice (2009), jossa puolestaan Sarahin näyttelemän geenitieteilijän Elsa Kastin hahmoa sävyttivät myös synkemmät puolet.

Sigourney Weaver

siggieFinland Sigourney Weaver on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijätär, joka nousi maailmankuuluksi elokuvanäyttelijäksi ensimmäisessä pääroolielokuvassaan, Ridley Scottin ohjaamassa elokuvassa Alien (1979)[x]. Toisen elokuvassa esiintyjän näyttelijän, Veronica Cartwrightin, piti alun pitäen esittää elokuvan ikoniseksi noussutta päähahmoa Ellen Ripleytä, mutta aivan viime hetkillä (elokuvan lavasterakenteiden rakennustöiden jo alettua) rooli päätettiinkin antaa Weaverille, joka oli vasta viimeisenä elokuvaan kiinnitetty näyttelijä ja jonka rooliksi suunniteltiin Lambertin roolia (joka annettiin Cartwrightille; kertomatta siitä hänelle ennen kuin vasta kuvauspaikalla!). Weaverillä oli Broadway -taustaa ja hän menestyi hyvin muissakin lajityypeissä, mutta kiinnostus tieteiselokuviin on täplittänyt Weaverin uraa aina näihin päiviin asti. Siinä missä monet muut yhdysvaltalaiset näyttelijättäret pitävät tieteis- ja kauhuelokuvia vain ponnistuslautana ”oikeiden” elokuvien pariin, Weaver on ansainnut itselleen lisänimen ”Sci-fi Queen” hänen lukuisten – yli viidelle vuosikymmenelle sijoittuvien – muistettavien tieteiselokuvarooliensa vuoksi.

United-Kingdom Sigourney Weaver is an actress from the United States who rose to world fame in her first main role in Ridley Scott’s science fiction/horror hybrid movie Alien (1979)[x]. Another actress appearing in the film, Veronica Cartwright, was initially slated to be acting the role of the iconic Ellen Ripley. At the final moments (when the building of the movie’s sets were already under way), however, the main role was given to Sigourney Weaver who was the last actor cast into the film and whose casting took place among the chaos of the set building. Cartwright was not even informed about the change until she arrived to the filming location. Weaver already had experience in the Broadway and succeeded well in other film genres but has returned to acting in science fiction films over and over again spanning five decades. Many other actresses only consider horror and science fiction films to only act as stepping boards into the world of ”real” movies but Sigourney has voluntarily returned to the genre time and again showing she truly has earned her nickname ”Sci-fi Queen”.

Clara aloitti uransa elokuvissa lapsinäyttelijänä jo 9-vuotiaana ja oli vasta 12-vuotias, kun hän oli ehdolla Espanjan parhaaksi uudeksi näyttelijättäreksi Goya-palkintogaalassa elokuvaroolistaan Imanol Uriben elokuvassa Carol’s Journey (2002). Clara on tehnyt aktiivisesti elokuvarooleja koko 2000-luvun, mutta lähinnä Espanjassa, vaikka puhuukin sujuvasti myös englantia. Clara tekee monipuolisesti elokuvarooleja railakkaista komedioista science fictionin kautta zombiekauhuun.

Finland Oikealta nimeltään Merle Farmer. Yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijätär, joka aloitti uransa Yhdysvalloissa, mutta siirtyi Euroopan puolelle 1960- ja 1970-lukujen taitteessa tekemään elokuvia sekä Ranskassa että Italiassa. Mimsy oli mukana monissa nyt euroklassikoiksi mielletyissä gialloissa ja trillereissä. Hän lopetti aktiivisen kansainvälisen uransa elokuvanäyttelijänä Gabrielle Lavian eroottiseen trilleriin Sensi (Evil Senses, 1986). Hän jäi kuitenkin pysyvästi Ranskaan asumaan ja työskenteli Ranskassa ja Italiassa teattereissa ja elokuvatuotannoissa lavastajana, puvustajana ja kuvanveistäjänä. Mimsyllä on Euroopassa elokuva-alalla näyttelijättärenä toimiva tytär Aisha Cerami.
