Tanssijana ja musiikkinäytelmien parissa uransa aloittaneena ja siitä televisiotuotantoihin siirtyneenä Skelton on oikeastaan vasta aloittelemassa roolejaan elokuvien puolella. Päärooli löytyy kuitenkin Hèctor Hernández Vicensin kaikin puolin surkeasta zombieviritelmästä Day of the Dead: Bloodline (2017). Jatkoa on ollut tarjolla naispääosassa Nicolas Cagen vastavoimana York Alec Shackletonin toimintajännärissä The Bank Heist (2018).

Ti West on yhdysvaltalainen ohjaaja, käsikirjoittaja, leikkaaja ja tuottaja. West aloitti kauhuelokuvien parissa elokuvallaan The Roost (2005), mutta varsinaisena läpimurtona voitaneen pitää vuotta 2009, jolloin west sai valmiiksi elokuvat The House of the Devil ja Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever. Sen jälkeen West on osoittanut olevansa todellinen monitoimimies, sillä vuoden 2011 elokuvastaan The Innkeepers alkaen (tätä kirjoitettaessa on vuosi 2024) West on paitsi ohjannut myös kirjoittanut, tuottanut ja leikannut omat elokuvansa! West on saanut lähivuosina suurta huomiota yhteistyöstään näyttelijä Mia Gothin kanssa kauhuelokuvillaan X (2022) ja Pearl (2022) ja jatkoa on luvassa.

Natasha Henstridge

Natasha Henstridge on kanadalainen näyttelijä. Henstridge nousi kuuluisuuteen (ainakin kauhuelokuvan lajityypin sisällä) heti ensiesiintymisellään ja vieläpä pääroolissa Roger Donaldsonin modernissa kauhuklassikossa Species (1995). Donaldsonin elokuva sai lopulta kaksi jatko-osaakin, joissa kummassakin Henstridge oli mukana. Vauhdikkaan lähtökiidon jälkeen Henstridge teki naispääosarooli Albert Pyunin tieteisjännärissä Adrenalin: Fear the Rush (1996) vastanäyttelijänään Christopher Lambert ja Ringo Lamin toimintajännärissä Maximum Risk (1996) vastanäyttelijänään Jean-Claude van Damme. Natasha Henstridge is a Canadian actress. She first jumped into the collective consciousness of horror genre fans around the globe with her debut role – which was also a leading role to boot – in Roger Donaldson’s science fiction horror film Species (1995). That movie inevitably later on spawned a number of sequels and spin-off films and two of them had Henstridge in them. After her major leap into the world of movies she was quickly seen in low-budget action films such as a female lead in Albert Pyun’s science fiction thriller Adrenalin: Fear the Rush (1996) opposite to Christopher Lambert and a female lead in Ringo Lam’s action thriller Maximum Risk (1996) opposite to Jean-Claude van Damme. Henstridge has later on been seen mainly in many low-budget and low-quality thrillers over the years. However, to our joy, she has also acted in a few more noteworthy entries such as a female lead in John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars (2001), female lead in Gérard Pirès’ thriller film Riders (2002), a supporting role in Marcel Langenegger’s crime drama Deception (2008) and David Tennant’s thriller film Home Invasion (2016).

Sandra Bullock on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Tämän blogin kiinnostusten ja teemojen osalta Bullockin läpimurtoelokuvana voi aivan hyvin pitää sivuosaa Marco Brambillan komediallisessa tieteisjännärissä Demolition Man (1993) vaikkakin Bullock oli ehtinyt mukaan myös samana vuonna ilmestyneeseen George Sluizerin kauhuelokuvaan The Vanishing (1993). Bullock sai Demolition Man -elokuvan roolistaan aikanaan kuraa niskaansa – tämän blogin pitäjän mielestä aivan syyttä suotta -, mutta seuraavana vuonna ilmestynyt Jan de Bontin toimintaelokuva Speed (1994) otettiin jo paljon suopeammin vastaan. Viimeistään Bullockin päärooli Irwin Winklerin teknotrillerissä The Net (1995) varmisti, että Bullock osaa näytellä isolla skaalalla. Sandra Bullock is an actress from the United States. Regarding the interests and themes of this blog, we would like to think that her break through into international arena was a supporting role in Marco Brambilla’s science fiction thriller Demolition Man (1993) although she had already appeared in a supporting role in George Sluizer’s horror movie The Vanishing that same year. Bullock received negative reviews from her performance in the Demolition Man. The blog keeper here thinks she did not really deserve that kind of treatment at all and in fact a year later her – somewhat similar – performance in Jan de Bont’s action thriller Speed (1994) was not met similarly. Finally in 1995 Bullock proved that she can carry a film all by herself in Irwin Winkler’s technological thriller The Net (1995). Bullock has proven that she can act in a wide range of roles in a wide range of genres. Although many casual readers may remember her from action comedies and romantic comedies, we must kindly remind that she has also starred in horror (for example Susanne Bier’s Bird Box (2018)), science fiction (for example Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity (2013)) an in thriller films (such as Barbet Schroeder’s Murder by Numbers (2002)).

Asami Sugiura

Asami Sugiura on japanilainen näyttelijä. Sugiuran ura on keskittynyt vahvasti aikuisviihdeteollisuuden, pinku-elokuvien ja kauhuelokuvien ympärille ja varsinaista kansainvälistä läpimurtoroolia Sugiuralla ei ole ollut. Sugiuran uraa seuraavat tietenkin ymmärtävät Sugiuran valitsemien roolien ”rajuuden” ja erityisesti kauhuelokuvien kohdalla hänhän on tuttu nimi erittäin ylitsevuotavien rajujen kehokauhuelokuvien näytteljänä.

Shauna Macdonald on skotlantilainen näyttelijä. Macdonaldin ensiesiintyminen elokuvassa oli sivurooli Anthony Neilsonin rikostrillerissä The Debt Collector (1999). Kauhun lajityypissä Macdonald nostatti itsensä hetkessä koko lajityypin tietoisuuteen pääroolissa Neil Marshallin hurmeisen hektisessä selviytymistarinassa The Descent (2005). Cubella oli sivuosa sittemmin Luis Llosan kauhuelokuvassa Anaconda (1997) ja jaettu päärooli David O.Russellin toimintaseikkailussa Three Kings (1999). Bonnie Bedelia on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Bonnie aloitti uransa television ja elokuvien parissa jo 1950-luvulla, joka saattanee tulla monille yllätyksenä. Isompaa menestystä Bonnie sai kuitenkin vasta 1980-luvulla, kun hän teki pääroolin Jonathan Kaplanin elämäkertadraamassa Heart Like a Wheel (1983) ja naispääosan Bruce Willisin vastanäyttelijänä John McTiernanin toimintaelokuvassa Die Hard (1988) sekä vastaavan roolin sen jatko-osassa, Renny Harlinin elokuvassa Die Hard 2 (1990). Alan J.Pakulan trillerin Presumed Innocent (1990) sivuosaroolin jälkeen Bedelia on näytellyt lähinnä pienissä rooleissa televisioelokuvissa ja televisiosarjoissa. Ura jatkuu kuitenkin edelleen (2024) ja yltää näin jo seitsemännelle vuosikymmenelle!

Alison Lohman on australialainen näyttelijä. Melissa oli nuorena kiinnostunut monista eri tanssilajeista. Rullaluistelu veti pidemmän korren ja Geroge päätyikin ennen näyttelijän uraansa jopa lajin ammattilaisurheilijana Australian mestariksi saakka. Alku näyttelijänä oli Australiassa lähinnä television parissa sekä myöhemmin elokuvien sivuosissa (esimerkiksi Alex Proyasin tieteiselokuva Dark City (1998), Steven Soderberghin The Limey (1999) ja David Lynchin Mulholland Dr. (2001)). Murtautuminen sivurooleista päärooleihin tuli Andrew Douglasin kauhuelokuvan The Amityville Horror (2005) yhteydessä. Vaikka George on sittemmin näytellyt muidenkin lajityyppien elokuvissa, elämme toivossa, että George nähdään vielä pääroolissa jännitys- tai kauhuelokuvassa (tai useammassakin, mikä ettei!).

Breaking from supporting roles to leading roles came in Andrew Douglas’ horror film Amityville Horror (2005) and since then we have been pampered with George in many genre films such as John Stockwell’s The Turistas (2006), Tom Shankland’s WAZ (2007) and a home run ass-kicking lead in David Slade’s 30 Days of Night (2007), which role most certainly has secured George as one of the female horror stars of the current century so far. Luckily she has continued to offer roles in crime and horror vein: Amanda Cusack’s crime mystery The Betrayed (2008), a leading role in Christopher Smith’s horror mystery film Triangle (2009) and why not throw in a superb survival horror film A Lonely Place to Die (Julian Gilbey, 2011). Since then we’ve seen a gradual shift back to television and other film genres but we’re certainly hoping to see her in horror, thriller and crime films in coming years.
