Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijätär. Nuorena hyperaktiivisuuttaan monilla eri urheilu- kamppailulajeilla hoitanut nuori nainen päätyi lopulta näyttelijäksi vanhempiensa vastuksesta huolimatta. Pienillä rooleilla ja televisiosarjatuotannoissa aloittanut Sweeney nousi kuuluisuuteen televisiosarjojen Sharp Objects, Handmaid’s Tale ja Euphoria kautta, mutta isommat elokuvaroolit avautuivat vasta Euphoria-sarjan menestyksen myötä. Nopeaan tahtiin 2019 alkaen Sweeney olikin sitten jo mukana tämän blogin teemojen kannalta kiinnostavissa elokuvissa, kuten Quentin Tarantinon Once upon a Time in … Hollywood (2019), Zu Quirken Nocturne (2020), Michael Mohanin The Voyeurs (2021) ja Adam Randallin Night Teeth (2021). Vaikka Sweeney on sittemmin roolitettu monipuolisesti erilaisten lajityyppien elokuviin, mainittakoon tässä yhteydessä Sweeneyn kovasti onnistuneet roolit tuoreemmissa elokuvissa kuten Michael Mohanin Immaculate (2024) ja Ron Howardin Eden (2024). Toivomme Sweeneyn tarttuvan jatkossakin jännitys- ja kauhuelokuvien rooleihin!

Sydney Sweeney is an American actress. As a youngster she was into many martial arts and sports mainly yo treat her hyper-activity until at about the age 13 she switched into acting. She had many minor and insignifant roles in within the movie industry but finally rose to fame due to her acting abilities in television series Sharp Objects, Handmaid’s Tale and Euphoria. Starting in 2019 she was quickly snatched into roles (of interest to this blog only) by Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood, 2019), Zu Quirke (Nocturne, 2020), Michael Mohan (The Voyeurs, 2021) and Adam Randall (Night Teeth, 2021). Although Sweeney has had a myriad of different castings in a wide variety of genres since then, the horror and thriller movies are of special interest to this blog and luckily Sweeney has taken parts in such movies as Michael Mohan’s Immaculate (2024) and Ron Howard’s Eden (2024). We hope we see her in many more genre movies in the future!

Robert Knepper on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Knepperillä on pitkä ura elokuva-alalla alkaen 1980-luvun puolivälistä ja jatkuen tähän päivään saakka (2024). Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Thompsonilla on ollut reippaasti kysyntää uransa alusta (vuosituhannen vaihteen tienoilta) alkaen sekä televisiotuotannoissa että elokuvanäyttelijänäkin. Onneksi mukaan mahtuu myös rooleja, jotka osuvat yksiin tämän blogin keskeisiin kiinnostuksen kohteisiin eli toiminta-, tieteis-, jännitys- ja kauhuelokuvat. Heti uransa alussa Thompson oli sivuosassa Simon Westin kauhujännärissä When a Stranger Calls (2006). Sittemmin mukaan tuli pieni rooli Scott David Russellin kauhujännärissä Exquisite Corpse (2010) ja jaettu naispääosa Tom Glynnin noir-rikos -elokuvassa Automotive (2013) – kumpainenkin lähes tuntemattomiksi jääneitä tapauksia. Luckily there are some films that coincide with the themes and interests of this blog (that would be mainly science fiction, horror, action and thriller films). Right at the start of her career Thompson had a small part in Simon West’s horror thriller When a Stranger Calls (2006). Later on she had a minor role in Scott David Russell’s horror thriller Exquisite Corpse (2010) and a shared female lead role in Tom Glynn’s crime-noir -thriller Automotive (2013) – both of which films are relatively obscure to audiences. One of her big successes was a female lead in Ryan Coogler’s sport action film Creed: The Legacy of Rocky (2015) pushing her upwards in the Hollywood’s ladder. Her role in John Michael McDonagh’s crime comedy War on Everyone (2016) and her role in Taika Waititi’s Marvel outing Thor: Ragnarök (2017) further cemented her as a rising star. She was still playing a second violin in Alex Garland’s Annihilation (2018) but was giving a leading role in Nia DaCosta’s crime drama Little Woods (2018). She has had further female lead roles in F.Gary Gray’s Men in Black: International (2019) and Rebecca Hall’s Passing (2021).

Maria Bello on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä ja tuottaja. Bello aloitti 1990-luvulla paljolti televisiotuotantojen parissa, mutta vuosituhanteen vaihteen paikkeilla siirtyi elokuvien pariin. Bellolle on kertynyt mukavasti rooleja jännitys-, tieteistoiminta- ja kauhuelokuvien lajityypeissä. Ving Rhames on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Toista sataa roolia elokuva-alalla 1980-luvun puolivälistä alkaen tekee Rhamesista jo melkoisen alan veteraanin. Rhames on tullut tunnetuksi erityisesti nimekkäistä sivuosarooleistaan. Tunnetuin lienee Brian De Palman Mission Impossible (1996) sekä sen kaikki toistaiseksi (2024) ilmestyneet lukuisat jatko-osat. Rhames on kuitenkin tullut tutuksi myös sivuosista kauhuelokuvissa: Wes Cravenin eriskummallinen People Under the Stairs (1991), Adrian Lynen mainio Jacob’s Ladder (1990), Zack Snyderin pätevä Dawn of the Dead (2004), Steve Minerin hirvittävä Day of the Dead (2008), Nick Lyonin pölö Zombie Apocalypse (2011), John Gulagerin epäonnistunut Piranha 3DD (2012) ja vaikka Kevin Carrawayn ponneton 7 Below (2012). Danny Glover on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä, joka aloitti uransa jo 1970-luvun lopulla etupäässä televisiotuotannoissa. Hänen sivuosaroolinsa Fred Schepisin tieteiselokuvassa Iceman (1983), Lawrence Kasdanin länkkärissä Silverado (1985) ja Peter Weirin jännityselokuvassa Witness (1985) nostivat Gloveria näyttelijänä. Ti West on yhdysvaltalainen ohjaaja, käsikirjoittaja, leikkaaja ja tuottaja. West aloitti kauhuelokuvien parissa elokuvallaan The Roost (2005), mutta varsinaisena läpimurtona voitaneen pitää vuotta 2009, jolloin west sai valmiiksi elokuvat The House of the Devil ja Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever. Sen jälkeen West on osoittanut olevansa todellinen monitoimimies, sillä vuoden 2011 elokuvastaan The Innkeepers alkaen (tätä kirjoitettaessa on vuosi 2024) West on paitsi ohjannut myös kirjoittanut, tuottanut ja leikannut omat elokuvansa! West on saanut lähivuosina suurta huomiota yhteistyöstään näyttelijä Mia Gothin kanssa kauhuelokuvillaan X (2022) ja Pearl (2022) ja jatkoa on luvassa.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Tämän blogin kiinnostusten ja teemojen osalta Bullockin läpimurtoelokuvana voi aivan hyvin pitää sivuosaa Marco Brambillan komediallisessa tieteisjännärissä Demolition Man (1993) vaikkakin Bullock oli ehtinyt mukaan myös samana vuonna ilmestyneeseen George Sluizerin kauhuelokuvaan The Vanishing (1993). Bullock sai Demolition Man -elokuvan roolistaan aikanaan kuraa niskaansa – tämän blogin pitäjän mielestä aivan syyttä suotta -, mutta seuraavana vuonna ilmestynyt Jan de Bontin toimintaelokuva Speed (1994) otettiin jo paljon suopeammin vastaan. Viimeistään Bullockin päärooli Irwin Winklerin teknotrillerissä The Net (1995) varmisti, että Bullock osaa näytellä isolla skaalalla. Bullock näyttelee luonnikkaasti laajaa kirjoa erilaisia hahmoja monissa eri tyylilajeissa ja vaikka monet muistavat hänet juuri romanttisista tai toiminnallisista komedioista, ei pidä unohtaa, että Bullock on tehnyt urallaan myös jännityselokuvia (esim. Sandra Bullock is an actress from the United States. Regarding the interests and themes of this blog, we would like to think that her break through into international arena was a supporting role in Marco Brambilla’s science fiction thriller Demolition Man (1993) although she had already appeared in a supporting role in George Sluizer’s horror movie The Vanishing that same year. Bullock received negative reviews from her performance in the Demolition Man. The blog keeper here thinks she did not really deserve that kind of treatment at all and in fact a year later her – somewhat similar – performance in Jan de Bont’s action thriller Speed (1994) was not met similarly. Finally in 1995 Bullock proved that she can carry a film all by herself in Irwin Winkler’s technological thriller The Net (1995). Bullock has proven that she can act in a wide range of roles in a wide range of genres. Although many casual readers may remember her from action comedies and romantic comedies, we must kindly remind that she has also starred in horror (for example Susanne Bier’s Bird Box (2018)), science fiction (for example Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity (2013)) an in thriller films (such as Barbet Schroeder’s Murder by Numbers (2002)).
