Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Thompsonilla on ollut reippaasti kysyntää uransa alusta (vuosituhannen vaihteen tienoilta) alkaen sekä televisiotuotannoissa että elokuvanäyttelijänäkin. Onneksi mukaan mahtuu myös rooleja, jotka osuvat yksiin tämän blogin keskeisiin kiinnostuksen kohteisiin eli toiminta-, tieteis-, jännitys- ja kauhuelokuvat. Heti uransa alussa Thompson oli sivuosassa Simon Westin kauhujännärissä When a Stranger Calls (2006). Sittemmin mukaan tuli pieni rooli Scott David Russellin kauhujännärissä Exquisite Corpse (2010) ja jaettu naispääosa Tom Glynnin noir-rikos -elokuvassa Automotive (2013) – kumpainenkin lähes tuntemattomiksi jääneitä tapauksia. Suosiota nostatti sitten naispääosa Ryan Cooglerin urheilupätkässä Creed: The Legacy of Rocky (2015), sivuosa John Michael McDonaghin rikoskomediassa War on Everyone (2016) sekä rooli Taika Waititin Marvel-pläjäyksessä Thor: Ragnarök (2017). Thompson oli tässä vaiheessa noussut jo käytännössä isojen pelureiden elokuvien roolituksiin Hollywoodin A-sarjalaisten näyttelijöiden elokuvien sivuosiin. Alex Garlandin elokuvasta Annihilation (2018) lohkesi vielä sivuosa, mutta Nia DaCostan rikosdraamassa Little Woods (2018) Thompsonilla on jo päärooli. Päärooleja ja naispääosarooleja on sitten tippunut senkin jälkeen: F.Gary Gray:n Men in Black: International (2019) ja Rebecca Hallin Passing (2021).

Tessa Thompson is an actress from the United States. Thompson started her career more or less at the turn of the millennium and she has had successes both in television and film. Luckily there are some films that coincide with the themes and interests of this blog (that would be mainly science fiction, horror, action and thriller films). Right at the start of her career Thompson had a small part in Simon West’s horror thriller When a Stranger Calls (2006). Later on she had a minor role in Scott David Russell’s horror thriller Exquisite Corpse (2010) and a shared female lead role in Tom Glynn’s crime-noir -thriller Automotive (2013) – both of which films are relatively obscure to audiences. One of her big successes was a female lead in Ryan Coogler’s sport action film Creed: The Legacy of Rocky (2015) pushing her upwards in the Hollywood’s ladder. Her role in John Michael McDonagh’s crime comedy War on Everyone (2016) and her role in Taika Waititi’s Marvel outing Thor: Ragnarök (2017) further cemented her as a rising star. She was still playing a second violin in Alex Garland’s Annihilation (2018) but was giving a leading role in Nia DaCosta’s crime drama Little Woods (2018). She has had further female lead roles in F.Gary Gray’s Men in Black: International (2019) and Rebecca Hall’s Passing (2021).

Olivier Megaton

Olivier Megaton on ranskalainen elokuvaohjaaja. Megatonin ensimmäinen ohjaustyö on vähälle huomiolle jäänyt tieteisjännäri Exit (2000), jota seurasi niin ikään vähälle huomiolle jäänyt toimintajännäri La sirène rouge (2002). Huomiota alkoi tulla Megatonin saadessa ohjattavakseen Transporter-elokuvasarjan kolmannen elokuva Transporter 3 (2008) ja sen siivittämänä Megaton teki kansainvälisen läpimurtonsa jännärillään Colombiana (2011). Colombiana oli vielä ranskalainen tuotanto, mutta sen suosion jälkeen Megaton löysi itsensä Yhdysvalloista ja käteen lapattiin Hollywoodin ykkössarjan tähtikaartia, kun ohjattavaksi löytyi Taken-elokuvasarjan toinen ja kolmas elokuva Taken 2 (2012) ja Taken 3 (2014). Elokuvapuolella ykkösohjaana pallilla on sittemmin ollut hiljaisempaa, mutta oli Megaton mukana sentään apuohjaajana tekemässä Luc Bessonin jännäriä Anna (2019). Vuonna 2020 näki päivänvalon varsin onneton ja ponneton tieteiselokuvan ja rikosdraaman hybridi The Last Days of American Crime (2020).

Olivier Megaton is a French director. His film debut, a rather competent science fiction thriller Exit (2000) was largely ignored and forgotten as was his second film, an action thriller La sirène rouge (2002). He started to receive some attention after directing the third instalment of the Transporter-movie franchise Transporter 3 (2008). His international breakthrough film followed soon in the form of the thriller Colombiana (2011). While Colombiana was still a French film, Megaton quickly found himself across the big pond as he was chosen to direct the Hollywood action franchise Taken’s second instalment Taken 2 (2012) and after it proved a success, then it’s sequel Taken 3 (2013). As a director he hasn’t had much activity since that; excepting a second unit director post in fellow Frenchman Luc Besson’s thriller Anna (2019). He did direct a sordid and ill-conceived science fiction and crime drama hybrid film The Last Days of American Crime in 2020 but we’re hoping he’ll do much better in the future.

Danny Boyle

Danny Boyle on brittiläinen elokuvaohjaaja, käsikirjoittaja ja tuottaja. Boyle aloitti ohjaajana television puolella. Ensimmäinen varsinainen elokuvaohjaus oli erinomaisen onnistunut ja edelleen vaikuttava rikosjännäri Shallow Grave (1994). Boyle on tullut tunnetuksi laajemmille yleisöille lähinnä hänen draama- ja elämäkertaelokuvistaan, mutta tämän blogin kannalta kiinnostavien lajityyppien kohdallakin Boylen pitäisi olla tunnettu nimi. Vai mitä sanotte elokuvista 28 Days Later (2002), Sunshine (2007) ja Trance (2013)?

Maria Bello

Maria Bello on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä ja tuottaja. Bello aloitti 1990-luvulla paljolti televisiotuotantojen parissa, mutta vuosituhanteen vaihteen paikkeilla siirtyi elokuvien pariin. Bellolle on kertynyt mukavasti rooleja jännitys-, tieteistoiminta- ja kauhuelokuvien lajityypeissä.
