Lucio Fulci oli italialainen käsikirjoittaja, näyttelijä ja ohjaaja, jonka mittava ura televisio- ja elokuva-alalla kesti lähes viisi vuosikymmentä. Fulci teki monenmoisia hommia, kunnes vakiinnutti kiinnostuksensa kohteiksi aluksi länkkärit ja giallo-jännärit ja lopulta myös jännäreitä väkevämmät kauhuelokuvat. Fulcin ohjaustöistä verevämmän materiaalin fanikunta muistanee parhaiten giallo-jännärit A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin (1971), Sette note in nero (1977), New York Ripper (1982) ja Don’t Torture a Duckling (1972), länkkärit Four of the Apocalypse (1975) ja Silver Saddle (1978) sekä kauhuelokuvista varsinkin ns. Gates of Hell -trilogia eli City of the Living Dead (1980), The Beyond (1981) ja House by the Cemetery (1981). Näitä kaikkia elokuvia yhdistää ylenpalttinen väkivalta ja verisen kuvaston monipuolisuus sekä Fulcin innovatiivisuus käytännön efektien rakentamisessa pienillä budjeteilla.

Lucio Fulci was a screenwriter, actor and director whose career in television and cinema spanned almost five decades. He worked on all sorts of productions until in the late 60’s he chose Giallo–thrillers, westerns and later on pure horror films as his genres of choice. The fans of these genres probably remember him best from his Giallo films A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin (1971), Sette note in nero (1977), New York Ripper (1982) and Don’t Torture a Duckling (1972), westerns Four of the Apocalypse (1975) and Silver Saddle (1978) and his horror films; specifically his so called Gates of Hell –trilogy consisting of movies City of the Living Dead (1980), The Beyond (1981) and House by the Cemetery (1981). All of the above films are connected by excessive, almost ridiculous level of bloody violence and his passionate love and innovation regarding how to make spectacular practical effects in as cheap as possible.
