Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney on yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijätär. Nuorena hyperaktiivisuuttaan monilla eri urheilu- kamppailulajeilla hoitanut nuori nainen päätyi lopulta näyttelijäksi vanhempiensa vastuksesta huolimatta. Pienillä rooleilla ja televisiosarjatuotannoissa aloittanut Sweeney nousi kuuluisuuteen televisiosarjojen Sharp Objects, Handmaid’s Tale ja Euphoria kautta, mutta isommat elokuvaroolit avautuivat vasta Euphoria-sarjan menestyksen myötä. Nopeaan tahtiin 2019 alkaen Sweeney olikin sitten jo mukana tämän blogin teemojen kannalta kiinnostavissa elokuvissa, kuten Quentin Tarantinon Once upon a Time in … Hollywood (2019), Zu Quirken Nocturne (2020), Michael Mohanin The Voyeurs (2021) ja Adam Randallin Night Teeth (2021). Vaikka Sweeney on sittemmin roolitettu monipuolisesti erilaisten lajityyppien elokuviin, mainittakoon tässä yhteydessä Sweeneyn kovasti onnistuneet roolit tuoreemmissa elokuvissa kuten Michael Mohanin Immaculate (2024) ja Ron Howardin Eden (2024). Toivomme Sweeneyn tarttuvan jatkossakin jännitys- ja kauhuelokuvien rooleihin!

Sydney Sweeney is an American actress. As a youngster she was into many martial arts and sports mainly yo treat her hyper-activity until at about the age 13 she switched into acting. She had many minor and insignifant roles in within the movie industry but finally rose to fame due to her acting abilities in television series Sharp Objects, Handmaid’s Tale and Euphoria. Starting in 2019 she was quickly snatched into roles (of interest to this blog only) by Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood, 2019), Zu Quirke (Nocturne, 2020), Michael Mohan (The Voyeurs, 2021) and Adam Randall (Night Teeth, 2021). Although Sweeney has had a myriad of different castings in a wide variety of genres since then, the horror and thriller movies are of special interest to this blog and luckily Sweeney has taken parts in such movies as Michael Mohan’s Immaculate (2024) and Ron Howard’s Eden (2024). We hope we see her in many more genre movies in the future!

Paul Verhoeven

Paul Verhoeven on alkujaan Alankomaista. Ohjaajana Verhoeven on tullut tunnetuksi seksuaalisen sisällön ja graafisen väkivallan yhdistämisestä satiiriin. Verhoeven aloitti ohjaajan uransa kotimaassaan draamoilla, mutta siirtyi Yhdysvaltoihin tekemään ensimmäisen Hollywood-filminsä Flesh and Blood (1985), jota seurasivat suuret menestykset RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), Starship Troopers (1997) ja Hollow Man (2000). Väliin mahtui myös Showgirls (1995), joka floppasi pahasti ilmestyessään, mutta on saanut myöhemmin arvostusta osakseen. Sittemmin Verhoeven palasi Eurooppaan jatkamaan uraansa muun muassa elokuvilla Black Book (2006), Elle (2016) ja Benedetta (2021).

Paul Verhoeven is originally from the Netherlands. A lauded director in the Netherlands he is known for his mixing of graphic violence, sexual content and social satire. He started with dramas in the Netherlands but after he made his Hollywood debut (Flesh and Blood, 1985), he made a string of prominent land-mark films (RoboCop in 1987, Total Recall in 1990, Basic Instinct in 1992, Showgirls in 1995, Starship Troopers in 1997 and Hollow Man in 2000), all of which excluding the Showgirls were huge box-office hits. He later returned to Europe and made the war-movie Black Book in 2006, psychological thriller Elle in 2021 and religious period drama Benedetta in 2016.
